I’ve had the same realization about my dog, Fergus. He seems to enjoy our backpacking trips, but he’s just not as spry as he used to be. I’ve made the decision I’ll carry a heavy pack if it means he can come. A “gram wheeney” (a.k.a. Ultra light hiker) I am not!
I'm blown away by what's available for hiking dogs. Unfortunately, in Australia, dogs are banned from almost all wild trails. My labrador Monty and I will just have to follow you and Honey and trek vicariously...
Rooting for you and Honey!

I'm realizing now that you have to let go of the "gram wheenieness" if your bringing your dog a long. But it's so worth the heavier pack!

Whoa, I didn't know that! That's so unfortunate because it's definitely a lot of fun getting to hike with your dog.
